Apples are awesome, I would also be willing to suggest HP. You will need to remember to order a European adapter before going of course.
I would avoid Toshiba, Gateway, E-Machines, or Compaq, they are all shit. Sony is fine though.
Oh yeah, get online sometime so we can hang out!!!! :( :( :(
